Aranea-MVC 1.2 RC1 – A Preview Release

November 18th, 2008 by Martti Tamm

Hi, everybody!

After some time and work, the next Aranea version is closing to its final state. I have put out the candidate for the final version so you can take a look if it already now, and try it out, how it fits in with your applications.

The final release is not far away – for now the candidate is provided for you to test it and to report any issues you might have. In about one week since now, if there aren’t any major problems with the candidate, I will put out the final stable version of 1.2. Therefore, the estimated deadline for any reports is the midnigth of November 26 (Wednesday) (in Greenwhich time :) ).

So here are few things you can do:

Any feedback is more than welcome because it is much easier to solve any problems before the final release, and it also helps others to migrate more conveniently!

Also, a few points worth mentioning why the new 1.2 release is better than the previous:

  • the back-button support for browsers – now clicking on the back button actually takes you back to the previous page and let’s you continue from there;
  • updated scripts – dependecy scripts for Aranea have been updated to their latest versions, now you can enjoy the latest features of protoypeJSscript.aculo.ustinyMCE, ModalBox, etc;
  • the modal dialog can now handle long pages: if a page is too long, the dialog will remain in visible window and add scroll bars to display its content (you can try it in the demo application: DEMOS -> Advanced -> Modal Dialog Tests -> MultiListWidget);
  • the select control can now sort and localize its data.

Meanwhile, I will also review documentation of the new features to make it sure that they are up-to-date for the final, and also try to fix any bugs or problems that may appear with the current candidate.

All the best!
